Many years ago Barbara bought me two (cement) stepping stones with glass art embedded in them. One of an iris and one of a dragonfly.
The iris stone triggered the purchase, I have always been fond of irises. Particularly species varieties.
Thre will be no photos as the glass in the stones has met their maker. Many years of four seasons outdoors loosened/cracked the glass. Most likely the freezing and thawing during the wintry seasons being the primary culprit. The two of us tredding on them likely didn’t much help matters.
Well I will say up front that it is likely not “traditional” stained glass work. But, it certainly involves many of the skills. And, for the purpose of catergorizing the post with respect to the content on this blog, it works for me.
So for my birthday last year (my 70th) Larry took it upon himself to replace the items with his own handcrafted versions. He certainly knew how to design, cut and arrange the glass. But, it took a bit of experimentation to get the cement right. As well as getting the glass to stay where put. That said the results are rather lovely. Thank you Larry. Well, and thank you Taffy for your approval, help and support.
And, given we are living on the west coast of Canada, this one seems rather appropriate.
Wonder if Taffy inspired this one. She often sent us pictures of Hawaiin sunrises and sunsets while on holidays in the islands.
A more traditional piece of stained glass work did accompany the stepping stones. It was for Barbara. Taffy apparently has the male version of the macintoshed maritimer.
